Tips on introducing solids to your baby
Krista Holmes, Master Mom dishes about her tips on getting your baby to eat solids.
According to Krista, yes it’s trial and error and with kids there isn’t one size fits all. I have learned this now that I have 2 children.
Maria started food earlier than my son did. Of course, it was because she was ready….but let me tell you, it seems like most of the stuff that I learned with my son was either easily forgotten, or she liked the opposite! Neither of them are picky eaters (knock on wood), but it seems like what I introduced to Tyson, Maria wasn’t keen on.
So I have compiled some tips/suggestions on introducing solids to your little ones (based on my experience):
- Rice cereal is not the be-all and end-all of starting food.
I was so used to offering rice cereal because everyone tells you too. Rice Cereal was a huge success with Tyson. Maria – not so much! I turned to a Facebook group for moms. One keen mom There’s recommended the Baby Gourmet Oatmeal Cereal, and my little one Maria loved it!
- Introduce meats and “chunky” things even if they don’t have teeth.
I remember learning this from a few different people, and it is was/is totally true! Both of my kids didn’t have teeth before 7 months, but were eating chicken, fish, steak and lamb. Yes, they “gummed” their meat, but they both love meat, and don’t seem to choke on things (of course you need to pay close attention when feeding babies anything).
- Fruit and Veggie packages
I am all about fresh fruit and veggies, but there are times when those fruit/veggies packages are just amazing. Not only are they great for when you’re travelling (or just too darn busy), they come in a wide variety of flavours and sizes.
You know the only thing that I am finding annoying? I’d say 8 out of 10 things my son, husband or I are eating have milk products! I eat a TON of dairy (can I get an amen to cheese?) and always notice my little daughter eyeing up my pizza. Or cream cheesed bagel. Or cheesy pasta. Our “go-to” food items are often chicken, fish, and various fruits and veg, with some smooth oatmeal mixed in there. Try Love Child or Baby Gourmet
Just 2 months to go until we introduce milk, but in the meantime, would love to hear your tips on feeding your baby!
